The Monster Hunt

The Monster Hunt - Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle & Plodda Falls

A quite simply stunning drive around Loch Ness and up the Great Glen. The Journey taking between 4-6 hours depending on stopping for lunch or visiting attractions.

This tour can take anywhere between 4-6 hours depending on you requirements.  Leaving Inverness at your requested time we head west towards Loch Ness taking roughly 20 minutes to reach the beginning of the Loch, Loch ness is roughly 23 miles long and as deep as 126 fathoms and legend has it bottomless at some points.
We travel along Loch Ness stopping for photographs at your request at access points along the single track road arriving at Urquhart castle which sits roughly halfway up the loch-side .

Visiting Urquhart castle is a considerable step back in time although now a ruin its history can be traced back to the 6th century when Pictish Kings of Scotland ruled from the North of Scotland and the Castle was a wooden Fort. The Castle, if visiting takes on average 1 hour to walk around and a Cruise of the Loch can be boarded and disembarked from within the Castle grounds adding another 1 hour to visiting time, The Castle has a short but extremely informative free film show which charts the history from Pictish times right through to its destruction in the 15th century.

Leaving Urquhart Castle we then have a 40 minute drive to Plodda Falls which really is off the beaten track and seldom seen by the majority of tourists but Adventure Highland Includes this as a must see especially is the rivers are in spate. The Falls have a wooden walk way so visitors can get out and over the Falls which can be a little Scary but very safe and Secure . Plodda falls sits deep in a pine forest so as well as the falls there are many Forest tracks to be followed and if weather permitting the perfect place for a Picnic .

Heading back to Loch Ness we then have the choice to stop for lunch in the small but quaint village of Drumnadrochit Or head to the top Of the Loch and the village of Fort Augustus which is famous for its old abbey and the residency of  Saint Columba in the 6th century on his pilgrimage to bring Christianity to a Pagan Country. Fort Augustus also houses the a large stage of the Caledonian Canal and the mechanisms for lifting boats from see level to carry on along the Canal very popular and amazing to watch . If Stopping for Lunch In any of the Villages It would be wise to book ahead as these Villages can be extremely busy In the height of Summer .

Travelling back to Inverness we take the South Side of Loch Ness which is an old Military single Track road with Scenery and Viewing points to die for passing through White Bridge and Foyers once home to the legendary Led Zeppelin Guitarist Jimmy Page and the satanist Aleister both once owned Boleskine House In the Village now burnt to the ground after a mysterious fire .

Again on the way back to Inverness we have ample points to pull over and get some amazing shots of Loch ness and the great glen.
